Gum Disease and Your Child
When you have started teaching your young child about how to care for his or her gums and teeth, that child will continue throughout life to automatically have good oral hygiene. Taking your child for a dental checkup early will begin another healthy habit.
It will also help prevent the child from being afraid of the dentist. Be sure to have your child seen by a dentist who deals with children on a regular basis. Talk to some of your friends who have small children.
Ask them for a referral to a dentist they personally know to be good dealing with children. It is very important that your child’s first experience in a dental office is a positive one. Preventing dental problems, especially gum disease, is easier than trying to treat them.
